Extender EF 1.4 x II
Multiply the focal length of your 135mm or longer lens by 1.4x without sacrificing image quality with the Canon EF 1.4x II extender. Optically superb, the lens fits all Canon 135mm fixed focal length lenses (except the 135mm f/2.8 Softfocus lens), along with the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L, 70-200mm f/2.8L, 70-200mm f/4.0L, 70-200mm f/4.0L IS USM, and 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS zoom lenses. In addition, the extender doesn't sacrifice your autofocus on any EOS camera as long as it's combined with a lens having an f/4 or faster maximum aperture (the extender reduces the effective aperture by one f-stop). Best of all, this version maintains the outstanding optics of the earlier incarnation, but adds a weather-resistant construction and improved anti-reflective surfaces in the barrel. The EF 1.4x II extender, which measures 2.9 inches in diameter and 1.1 inches long, weighs 7.8 ounces.

This can be a great addition to the Canon 70-200 F4L regardless if you have the IS model or not. The combination is great despite the higher F-Stop at 5.6, which makes very little difference outdoors as long as you have a clear forecast.

I picked this up a little over a year ago, looking to turn my 70-200 lens into something a bit longer. I had high hopes after reading the other reviews -- I have to say though, after using it I'm kind of disappointed!
The 70-200L lens is one of my sharpest lenses - even at 100% it's loaded with detail. I figured there would be some detail loss with the 1.4x, but accepted it in exchange for the increase. Unfortunately, I found the detail loss to be so significant that I just don't use the 1.4x anymore (if needed, I get better results by simply cropping or enlarging in photoshop). So much detail is lost and the autofocus also takes a hit. For the price and the fact it only works with "professional" lenses, I expected more. My 70-300 (non-L) lens provided better results than the 70-200L with the extender.
The 3rd party models, which I hear aren't as good, at least work with all lenses and come in at a much lower price point.

I used this 1.4X TC for 135mm f/2L lens. The lens + 1.4X TC becomes a 189mm f/2.8 lens, which is excellent! Raw Image quality out of the camera is already very good, only slightly softer than the 135mm raw image. Post processing easily corrects that softness.

I have a Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM but it is still not long enough for shooting birds. I searched on the web and found that Canon EF 1.4X II Extender Canon EF 1.4X II Extender Telephoto Accessory will work with my lens with auto focus. So I ordered it through Amazon. However, it turned out that the auto focus does not work once this extender is attached to my 100-400mm lens! So I have to return it to Amazon. I still need an extender that can work with my Canon 100-400mm lens with fast auto focus capability but just can't find it yet.
