I bought an SR11 a couple years ago because I wanted/needed a good quality high definition camera that was above the typical consumer level but not as expensive as a professional grade. The default field of view on that camera gives you your typical "consumerish" look to shots and, when shooting indoors with limited space, it's almost impossible to get an entire scene in frame. I had already pre-planned to buy this lens and did so shortly after ordering the camera.

To make it short, if you own one of the Sony video cameras that are compatible with this lens, you are missing out. I really feel this lens should come standard with the SR11 (or any compatible model). The build quality feels solid, with a nice heft to it. It is a very nice glass for the price and I never shoot without it. It's not so wide that it would draw attention to itself, but you can easily frame large subjects without having to step far back. There's no distortion that I've ever seen.
The size of the lens means it allows ample light to enter... probably more light than the built-in lens does on it's own.

The camera itself takes on a more professional and impressive look with the lens attached, which is also nice.

Again, there's no real reason not to own this lens and every reason to own it. Just treat it with care and I'd advise against leaving it on the camera when not in use, as the threading is very small and one bad knock could cause it to strip out or otherwise be damaged.

After trying multiple wide-angle lenses on my Sony HD Handycam, I finally found a great lens! The first lenses I purchased were great - very wide, but the actual lens was visible in each shot if the camera was moved or if it was hand-held. Although this lens isn't as wide as we may wish, it is the best available! No black edges visible in the shots and no distortion around the edges! I'm still hoping that one day all the manufacturers will realize that while zoom is nice, the consumer really wants a WIDE standard lens!

I was dissapointed after trying this add-on,on my new sony videocam it show a bit of different but not that much. compare to the tag price this product cost. is not worht to pay $ 199 or$ 120, but $50. is the right price
